Nature Reserve Beka
The Beka Nature Reserve is dedicated to those who appreciate contact with nature. When visiting the Puck Bay area, it is a must-see destination and a wonderful adventure for both children and adults. The nature reserve is one of the few coastal areas where you can experience peace and quiet instead of a crowd of tourists, where the singing of birds and the breeze of wind soothe your senses. Take your time in this beautiful place and enjoy the wonderful nature, as it is one of the few charming sanctuaries of peace.
Why are these areas so unique?
Regular use of agricultural land and the inflow of salty water from the Puck Bay (which occurs every autumn and winter) have created ideal conditions for the development of unique and rare plant habitats – saline. Saline habitats provide an excellent breeding ground for waterfowl.
The Beka Reserve is an important site for European bird species. Over 200 species of birds occur within and around the reserve, including over 40 species that breed directly within the reserve. The most valuable among them are the species associated with meadows, sandy grasslands, and beaches.
Many rare and protected plant species are protected on the saline habitats, such as Gerarda’s burweed, sea arrowgrass, sea plantain, sea milkwort, seaside bur-reed, Tabernaemontana reed, saltmarsh aster, and red fescue. The northern part of the reserve, supplied with fresh water, is a habitat for orchids (such as Lady’s slipper, Liparis loeselii) and other strictly protected plant species, such as marsh helleborine and the carnivorous plant, common sundew.
